FRIDAY FLICKER INSPIRATION: HAND-EMBROIDERED PILLOWCASES

HUMP DAY HUMOR

Tea on Tuesday: Butterscotch Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:
1 package (18-1/4 ounces) chocolate cake mix
1 jar (17 ounces) butterscotch ice cream topping
1 carton (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed
3 Butterfinger candy bars (2.1 ounces each), coarsely crushed

Directions:
Prepare and bake cake according to package directions, using a greased 13-in. x 9-in. baking pan. Cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes.

Using the end of a wooden spoon handle, poke 12 holes in warm cake. Pour butterscotch topping over cake; cool completely.

Spread with whipped topping; sprinkle with candy. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Refrigerate leftovers.

Yield: 12-16 servings.

My latest adventure! Country-Fried Primitives

Exciting news!! I am very proud to now be part of the artisan community at Country-Fried Primitives! There are alot of talented people there and I can't believe I got accepted in! ;) I mostly do punch needle and stitchery work. Drop by sometime and take a look at all the handmade items!

FLICKR FRIDAY INSPIRATIONS: ENGLISH PAPER PIECING

Hello Friends!

When we were in Gatlinburg last month for the Craftsmans Fair, the town of Gatlinburg was sponsoring a program called "Tunes & Tales". Each evening in different sections of the town, there were artists or musicians set up on the sidewalks. Now you know me, my favorite was a woman called "Quilting Annie". She was dressed up in a calico dress and bonnet and sat at a table showing how to quilt "grandmother's flowers garden". I had seen these little blocks before on vintage items so I was eager to learn! It looked similiar to what I have seen described as "english paper piecing" but she didn't use paper or cardboard blocks. She started with a 4" circle and folded and stitched all the way around until she came out with a 6-sided shape...which she then stitched to other hexagons and was making a table runner. As she stitched, she talked about quilting in general and some "tips". I thought even this was easy enough for me! ;) She also did some story-telling and told about the beginnings of the Gatlinburg area. It was really interesting and I decided I'm going to try and do this simple little quilting. Wish me luck! Here's some Flickr photos that reminded me of her work.

Handmade Decorative Tea Towels

This weekend I decided to "play" and made a set of decorative tea towels for our other house. We've been moving "forever" (sigh) and hopefully next spring will be the winner! It was my grandmother's house and we've been doing a bit of changing and remodeling/upgrading for the last 3 years. Anyhow, above her kitchen sink, she had a wooden paper towel holder (at least I think that's what it was supposed to be), but when you try to unroll it, it would always get stuck or fall down (you get the picture!) So she used it to hang a set of decorative tea towels.

I have had this eyelet fabric & Donna Dewberry roses fabric for awhile so I thought I'd just make up a set just for that purpose. Kind of cute!
