Let us not forget...

Happy Memorial Day, let us not forget that freedom is not free, but does indeed have a price. We thank all the men and women in the military and those who have served for a job well done in keeping us safe....our hearts and prayers go out the families of our soldiers.

Hope everyone has a blessed and wonderful day.

HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY PINK SATURDAY!

OMGoodness! Can you believe that Pink Saturday is celebrating its 2nd birthday?? Congratulations to Beverly for hosting this awesome celebration of pink for the past two years. And...Pink Saturday is featured in the current issue of Artful Blogging in honor of the second birthday. How great is that?!! What an honor!

So for the birthday, we must have a special cake! Something simple, yet elegant for our Pink Saturdays.

Now if you don't feel like a slice of cake, we do have some cupcakes. I do love cupcakes...they're just so perfect!

Would you care for a pink cookie?

We must have pink flowers too! Afterall, you can't have too many flowers!

I really must wear a pink dress for the occasion.

Oh I can't decide on shoes...but I do loves these....ooh la la!
Or maybe I should wear something with an open-toe?
Oh, decisions! Decisions!
Did I mention we have tea?

Of course, we are celebrating, so maybe you would care for a glass of pink champagne?

Well, I certainly hope you have enjoyed your visit to Prim Rose Hill today. There are so many wonderful participants in Beverly's Pink Saturday today and you can visit them here.

Happy Birthday Beverly and here's to many, many more Pink Saturdays!

Hugs & well wishes,
Sheri

Bit by the Jewelry-Making Bug!

Hello everyone!

Thank you for so many emails asking if I fell off the face of the earth! I seem to have been missing here from my blog the past few weeks. Just busy, busy, busy! I've started making jewelry for my Etsy shop. Right now I'm focusing on earrings and I have really been having fun doing these! I love dangle earrings and so far I want to keep every pair I've made! Ha, my husband just shakes his head. ;)

I'm so glad it's summertime here and most of the students are gone home for the summer (so the job is slowing down a bit--I work at a university for my "day job".) I swore I'd never be interested in making jewelry...."it's just not my thing"...."I don't have the time"...."I have no ideas"...you know how we go on and on and make excuses. Well, I have been officially bit by the jewelry-making bug!

Thought I'd share a few pictures here with you so you know what I'm up to.
Hope you're having a fabulous Monday...well, as fabulous as Monday can be! ;)

Hugs,
Sheri

Tea on Tuesday: Vanilla Dessert Sandwiches

Ingredients:
* 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
* 2 tsp. cream of tartar
* 1 tsp. baking soda
* 1/2 tsp. salt
* 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
* 1-1/2 cups granulated sugar
* 2 Tbsp. milk
* 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
* 1 tsp. pure ground vanilla beans* or 2 tsp. vanilla extract
* Vanilla sugar (recipe below)
* 1 recipe Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting (recipe below)

Directions:
1. In medium bowl whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

2. In large bowl beat butter with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add granulated sugar and beat until smooth and creamy. Beat in milk, vanilla, and ground vanilla. Beat in as much of the flour mixture as you can with the mixer. Stir in remaining flour mixture by hand. Dough will be soft.

3. Divide dough in half. Cover and chill dough about 30 minutes or until easy to handle. On lightly floured surface, roll half the dough at a time until 1/8 inch thick.

4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Using a 3-inch round cookie cutter, cut out circles from dough. Using a 1-inch round cookie cutter, cut out circles from the centers of half the dough circles. Place dough circles on parchment paper-lined cookie sheets. Reroll scraps, including the 1-inch dough rounds, and cut out additional dough circles as directed. Repeat with remaining dough half.

5. Sprinkle the dough circles that have the centers cut out with vanilla sugar. Bake cookies for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown. Let cookies cool on cookie sheets for 1 minute. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool completely.

6. Spread bottoms of the solid cookies with about 1-1/2 teaspoons of the Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting. Top each with one of the cookies with the center hole, sugar side up. Refrigerate filled cookies to store.

Makes 24 sandwich cookies.

Vanilla Cream Cheese Frosting: In a medium bowl stir together 6 ounces cream cheese, softened; 1/4 cup powdered sugar; and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.

Note: *Ground vanilla beans should not be confused with vanilla powder.

Vanilla Sugar: Pour 4 cups of sugar into a large, clean jar. Using a sharp paring knife, slit 1 vanilla bean lengthwise. Insert both halves into sugar, making sure all of the bean is covered with sugar. Secure lid and store in a cool, dry place for 2 weeks before using. (Will keep indefinitely.)

PINK SATURDAY

Hello everyone!

I have been missing in action for a small bit here on my blog, but wanted to get back into the groove with celebrating Pink Saturday! Beverly at How Sweet the Sound is so gracious to host this special event every Saturday & I have missed being a part of it.

I have been working on starting a new *part* of Prim Rose Hill Studio and working on a new website too. Now I've officially branched off into jewelry making! I am very excited to share this news with you. So...I thought I'd celebrate by sharing some handmade PINK jewelry, of course! You can visit my new website at PrimRoseHillStudio.com.

Hope you have a wonderful Pink Saturday!

Hugs,
Sheri
